Academic excellence is the cornerstone of Bethune-Cookman University’s mission.  With seven academic schools offering 35 undergraduate degree programs and a master’s degree in transformative leadership, there are courses to inspire and challenge students interested in many disciplines.  Our dedicated faculty are committed to your education.

Our Academic Schools

Bethune-Cookman University offers 35 undergraduate degrees and a master’s degree through seven academic schools.  Our faculty are dedicated to teaching and mentoring our students as well as conducting research, publishing and maintaining the highest standards for academic excellence.


•    School of Nursing:  Founded in 1978, the B-CU School of Nursing recently moved into the new L. Gale Lemerand School of Nursing building, a state-of-the-art facility featuring technology-equipped lecture halls, class rooms and skills labs as well as a nurse-managed community healthcare clinic.  The school’s program is approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.  Offering a Bachelor of Science degree, the nursing program aims to educate men and women for leadership roles in their profession.  Courses expose students to classroom and clinical learning experiences in area hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health care, hospice, the public health department, early childhood facilities, and restorative rehabilitation and mental health agencies and many other community-based settings.

•    School of Education:  The B-CU School of Education has had continuous accreditation by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs (NCATE) since the mid 1980’s and currently has fourteen programs approved by the Florida Department of Education.  The program has earned praise for the high rate at which its graduates pass state-required examinations required for teacher certification.  The program is proud that many of its graduates have been nominated for the prestigious Sallie Mae Beginning Teacher of the Year Award.  Additionally, the School offers a major in Recreation and Leisure Studies.

•    School of Business:  The primary goal of the B-CU School of Business is to develop future leaders of the business world.  Students are provided with relevant, real world skills through majors in business administration, accounting and international business.  A major in hospitality management is also offered which includes a food and beverage management concentration.

•    School of Social Sciences:  The B-CU School of Social Sciences offers programs and experiences designed to develop individual abilities and prepare students for professional studies and careers in education, research, social and public services, law, international relations, government and the criminal justice system.  Programs also encourage students to think globally and act locally.  The international studies major prepares students for graduate school or for employment in the diplomatic corps.  The curriculum focuses on Africa and the African diaspora and encourages students to study abroad in such places as South Africa, Ghana, Cuba, Brazil and Zimbabwe.  In addition, a women’s studies program complements current offerings in this area.

•    School of Arts & Humanities:  The B-CU School of Arts & Humanities promotes recognition of the worth, dignity, rights and responsibilities of the individual student.  Courses develop leaders whose education embraces specialization, as well as breadth of learning to ensure versatility in the world of work.  The School offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in English, mass communications, modern languages, music, religion and philosophy, speech communication and theater.  The fast-expanding area of mass communications is training professionals for television and radio production, journalism, and public relations.

•    School of Science, Engineering & Mathematics:  The B-CU School of Science, Engineering & Mathematics offers Bachelor of Science degrees in the major areas of biological and physical sciences with specialized training in pre-professional areas of medicine and health care.  The school offers research opportunities to many students through research grants and contracts.  Majors in computer science and computer information systems prepare students for lucrative careers in the world of technology.  Additionally, a 3-2 engineering program is available with pre-engineering provided through the division. A major in environmental science is currently in development.

•    School of Graduate And Professional Studies:  The B-CU School of Graduate and Professional Studies provides quality education for adult learners from diverse social, economic and educational backgrounds.  The graduate school is dedicated to accomplishing this mission by providing excellent programs of instruction using the most current technology.  The Masters of Science degree in Transformative Leadership started in August 2006.  This online study of leadership advocates value-centered change based on an awareness of the diversity of cultures that affect our global economy.  

HONORS PROGRAM – The HONORS PROGRAM at Bethune-Cookman University seeks to provide expanded study opportunities for highly motivated and exceptionally qualified students.  Courses are designed to broaden intellectual horizons, integrate various areas of knowledge, and explore major fields of study through individualized learning and independent research.  The experience and stimulation of outstanding professors, shared in small-class settings, awakens intellectual independence.  Honors Program students, because of accelerated learning opportunities, are well prepared for graduate school.
