Academic convocations, which include the Service of Consecration for Graduates and Commencement Convocation, are solemn and sacred affairs; therefore, all attendees should remain until the ceremonies end.
Faculty members are required to participate and to wear appropriate academic regalia at the Service of Consecration for Graduates and at the Commencement Convocation. Faculty members must contact the campus bookstore to pick up academic regalia between Monday, April 27 and Wednesday, May 6, 2009.
Faculty members are required to wear academic regalia and adhere to the dress code: Ladies—-black or dark dresses, black dress shoes; Post or small hoop earrings (No dangling earrings or excessive jewelry); Men: white shirt, black or dark blue tie, black or dark pants, and black dress shoes (The Bethune-Cookman University Faculty Handbook, August 2007).
Parking will be available in the Ocean Walk garage located north of the Ocean Center and in the west parking lot; the approximate cost, $5.00. Additional parking will be located south of the Ocean Center adjacent to Peabody Auditorium.
Faculty members should enter the building through the main entrance (northwest and southwest) doors and assemble in Meeting Room 103 next to the Exhibit Hall. Faculty marshals should report directly to the Volunteer check-in area in the Seaside Rooms (Conference Center) to pick up badges and review assignments.
The procession is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. The University and faculty marshals will monitor and direct the procession. At the end of the program, the president will lead the recessional followed by the platform guests. The faculty, then the graduates will follow, front rows leading, and exit through the Conference Center to the east side (Atlantic Avenue) of the Ocean Center. The platform guests and faculty will form two lines, facing each other, and greet the graduates as they walk through to the east exit.
Faculty members are encouraged to attend rehearsal Friday, May 8, at the Ocean Center, if their schedules permit. We recommend that the faculty arrive for rehearsal between 11:00 – 11:30 a.m.
