Graduating Students Info.
All graduating students (master’s and bachelor degree candidates) should contact the campus bookstore at 481-2146 to pick up caps, gowns, and hoods between Monday, April 27 and Wednesday, May 6, 2009.
Graduating students should arrive at the Ocean Center by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2008, and must wear caps and gowns to participate in the Commencement ceremony. Parking will be available in the Ocean Walk garage located north of the Ocean Center and the west parking lot at $5.00. Additional parking will be located south of the Ocean Center adjacent to Peabody Auditorium.
All graduating students should enter the building at the northwest and southwest entrances and assemble in the Exhibit Hall.
The guests of Graduates and the general public will enter the facility through the general public entrance; the doors will open to the public one hour before the event begins. Graduates are requested to inform guests attending the ceremony that they should be seated 15 minutes before the event begins. Guests should not leave the arena until the entire ceremony ends. Leaving causes disruption and noise which disturbs others.
No children will be allowed to accompany graduating students onto the arena floor.
DRESS CODE
Graduating students are reminded of the dress code——Ladies: black or dark dresses, black dress shoes; Post or small hoop earrings (No dangling earrings or excessive jewelry); Men: white shirt, black or dark blue tie, black or dark pants, and black dress shoes. Students should refer to the complete dress code listed in the “Ceremony Etiquette for Academic Convocations.” Undergraduate students should wear tassels on the right side and move the tassel to the left side when instructed during the ceremony.
Graduates should leave personal items (cell phones, purses, backpacks, clothing, etc.) with parents or friends. No items that may create a distraction will be permitted on the arena floor. Graduates will not be permitted to leave any personal items in the Exhibit Hall.
