My Foundations - COMPASS Testing

Dear Prospective Wildcat:

Congratulations on being accepted the GREAT Bethune-Cookman University. We hope you are having a wonderful summer, and we hope you are celebrating the academic and personal accomplishments that you have obtained this year. The Wildcat Family at Bethune Cookman University extends heartfelt and sincere congratulations to you for selecting our University.

In order to facilitate a smooth transition, there is some information that is pertinent: students admitted directly from high school with an 18 or higher on the ACT or a 440 or higher on both the verbal and math sections of the SAT are exempt from taking a placement test. Students not meeting exemption criteria are required to take a placement test before registering for classes. Transfer students may also be required to take placement tests depending on which courses have been accepted by the university. The Office of Testing and Evaluation will determine the placement of your reading, math, and English/Writing courses based on the (B-CU) COMPASS placement test.

Prior to July 29, 2011, students can take the B-CU COMPASS Placement exam, either at B-CU or at an approved remote testing facility by calling (386) 481-2309. Students can also email the B-CU testing office to make an appointment at testing@cookman.edu. The email should include the student’s name, B-CU ID number, and telephone number. Students can retake the exam every 31 days in order to achieve a score that will place them in college level courses for reading, English, and math.

If a student does not take the B-CU COMPASS Placement test prior to July 29, 2011 students will take the COMPASS exam during New Student Orientation in August. Students will only be given one (1) opportunity to take the B-CU COMPASS placement exam. There will not be an opportunity to retest. The (B-CU) COMPASS placement test is very important.

We encourage students to prepare for the test prior to taking it. We have created an online review course using the MyFoundationsLab ,  a self-paced online  mastery-based course for assessing and remediating college readiness skills in reading, math, and English.

In order to access this course you must purchase access from the My FoundationsLab website.  The cost is $30.00 for ten weeks of access to the program. Listed below are the steps for purchasing access:

Step 2.     Click Buy Access (New Users)
Step 3.     Click Purchase Online Access for 10 weeks (cost $30)

The course identification number is XL0O-F1RH-601Z-49S2 . Since MyFoundationsLab is a self paced course, you can complete the assignments can be completed whenever you want and in any order.

We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity. If you have any further questions contact me at 386-481-2246. We look forward to meeting and welcoming you into the Wildcat family.
