Returning Cares Students
Dear B-CU Student,
We hope you are having a wonderful summer, and we hope you are celebrating the academic and personal accomplishments that you have obtained this year.
If you received a U (unsatisfactory) or P (progress but must repeat) in one or more CARES courses during the fall or spring semester, we want to give you an opportunity to practice and complete assignments during the summer months. Students who received an S grade may also want to participate by completing the assignments in the next level course. Practicing and completing assignments in reading, math, or English may enable you to enroll in the next level course in the fall.
We have created an online review course using the MyLab software that you purchased this school year. The review course is free. Completing the review course assignments will make you eligible to retake the COMPASS when you return to campus.
In order to receive the course code to enroll in the review course, you must contact the instructor for the subject-area you want to enroll via email by June 25, 2010. The instructor for each subject area is listed below:
- Kristina Secunda at secundak@cookman.edu for English
- Tashana Howse at howset@cookman.edu for Math
- Casandra Stroy at stroyc@cookman.edu for Reading
The instructor will track your progress throughout the summer as you complete the assignments. One week before the start of fall classes, you must complete the MyLab Assignment Checklist. In addition, you must submit that checklist to the instructor in the subject area that you are working on to improve your skills. The instructor will sign-off on your checklist indicating that you have completed all assignments this summer, and that you are eligible to retake the COMPASS exam. Final approval for COMPASS retakes will come from the Director of CARES. Retake testing will be held in August and announced at a later date.
We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity. If you have any further questions contact me at thompsjo@cookman.edu.
Sincerely,
Joan Thompson, Director
