Center for Academic Retention and Enrichment Services

Welcome to CARES!

The Center for Academic Retention and Support Services (CARES) provides programs and services to support developmental students.   Through both academic and non-academic services, CARES seeks to develop critical-thinking, decision-making, problem-solving, leadership and service-learning skills for developmental students.   CARES offers developmental courses in mathematics, English, and reading to increase student success in college level courses.  CARES personnel also monitor the academic progression of CARES students through their matriculation to graduation.

Mission

The mission of the Center for Academic Retention and Enrichment Services (CARES) is to increase retention and graduation rates by enhancing the academic progression of developmental students.
CARES maintains tutorial labs to provided academic enrichment and support to students to augment classroom instruction.  CARES students are required to spend time in the CARES support labs as part of the course requirements.

Academic Advising Center

The Academic Advising Center provides advisement and other academic support services for CARES students.  These services include course scheduling, retention support, and other academic enrichment services that are designed to enhance the academic success of college preparatory students.  CARES academic advisors work closely with CARES faculty to refer students to the University’s support services as appropriate to student needs.

Student Support Center

The Student Resource Center monitors class attendance in pre-college English, Reading and Mathematics courses.   The Support Center offers seminars, workshops, and short courses in time management, note-taking, social networking, and test-taking.  In addition the CARES support personnel counsels and/or refers students to other campus services for assistance.
