2011 Summer Invitational Institute Schedule

Weekly Schedule:  The Daytona Beach Summer Institute will run for four weeks from July 11 through August 5. Bring laptop, spiral notebook/paper, memory stick, and books/articles to share.

Detailed Monday through Thursday Schedule:


9:00  Writing time

9:30  Sharing with group

9:45  Break

10:00 – 11:00  Demonstration/Inquiry presentation

11:00-12:00  Attendees fill out written evaluation forms and submit to presenter

Lunch

1:00 – 2:30  Attendees will be writing on their pieces/journal/ demonstration/ article. Writing groups will work on revising/editing/responding to each other’s writings.  Tuesdays will be group work on grade level research issue and the best method to share summary of research findings during the last week.

2:30 -3:30   Journal Writing/daily reflection.  Review of activities for the following day.  

Friday:  Special Field Trip Day

9:00    Teacher Demonstrations in the morning; field trip/special speakers in the afternoon.

Week 1:  tour of Bethune-Cookman Campus, the Foundation,  and speech about Dr. Bethune

Week 2:  Tour of Lilian Place, oldest historic house in Daytona

Week 3:  Tour of Ponce Inlet Lighthouse:  Stephen Crane’s “The Open Boat”

Week 4:  Friday will be culmination day with a Teacher Demonstration.  Luncheon/reception will be held at Bethune-Cookman Civic Engagement Center.
