APPLYING FOR HOUSING
How do I apply to live on campus?
All freshmen are guaranteed housing and will be placed once accepted and housing deposit is paid. Returning students may participate in Room Selection which occurs in March, after paying their $200 deposit. Any returning students who have not gone through room selection and would like housing may pay their $200 deposit and contact email@example.com to be placed on the waitlist.
Can you waive my Housing Deposit?
No. As demand for housing is tremendous, the deposit is the only mechanism we have for insuring that an applicant will continue to be committed to staying in our residence halls. The deposit allows us to provide some motivation to those who will ultimately cancel their housing application to do so early in order to allow us to accommodate the needs of those on the waitlist.
I am not a current resident; can I apply for housing for the spring semester?
Yes. We work very hard to place every student who applies for housing. Spring placements are made in late December and early January, after the residence halls close for the fall term.
What if I don’t get Housing?
Students remain on the waitlist until they ask to be removed. Students who wish to be removed must complete and submit a Housing Release Form to cancel their application.
What is Financial Clearance?
When all your financial aid, scholarships etc has been applied/approved for the Fall semester and is reflected on your account. The office of Student Accounts is the only office that financially clears students.
What's my room assignment and who's my roommate?
Room Placements and assignments will be made mid July. All assignments will be placed on Wildcat Web for your viewing.
Can I contact my roommate?
Once room placements are complete, you will be able to contact your roommate via Facebook or other social networks. (Residence Life will not provide student phone numbers, emails etc.)
Can I choose which residence hall I want to live in?
All freshmen students are guaranteed housing and are placed automatically any requests should be sent via firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I get a room Change?
All room changes are requested through the Residence Life Coordinator. No room changes will occur until the second week of classes. No request is guaranteed and is based on availability and is time sensitive.
LIVING IN THE RESIDENCE HALLS
I want a single. How do I get one?
All rooms are double or triple occupancy.
What is the curfew policy?
All freshmen must be in their rooms by 12am-8am Sunday-Thursday and 2am-8am Friday and Saturday. Freshmen may sign out for the weekend however they must have permission via their housing contract. If you are planning to leave for the weekend you must sign out before 10pm on Friday and sign back in before 12am on Sunday.
Are we allowed to have visitors of the opposite gender in our rooms?
Bethune-Cookman does NOT allow students to have guests of the opposite sex in their rooms.
What are the sizes of the beds?
Twin size beds or twin long beds in some halls.
Are all bathrooms community style?
No, some halls have adjacent (suite) bathrooms where only four (4) students share. Those halls are Jaflo-Davis, Thompson, Lee E. Rhyant, and Bronson Annex.
How many students to a room?
Bronson Hall and Joyner Hall house three (3) students per room. All other residence halls are two (2) students per room.
Does Bethune-Cookman have honors residence halls?
Lee E. Rhyant Residence Hall is Bethune-Cookman's Honors Facility. There is a GPA requirement of 3.00 or better. There is an additional $354.00 cost per semester to reside in this residence hall.
What can I bring to the Residence Halls?
All rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, chair and closet. We have created a list to aid you in your process.

- Firearms, BB-guns, or any weapons that could inflict bodily harm

Are the rooms equipped for cable television?
Yes, the rooms are equipped for cable television
Is there telephone service/USB connection in the rooms?
No, unfortunately there is no phone connection in the rooms. In case of emergency there are phones in each residence hall lobby for the residents to have access to at anytime. There is also no USB connection however Bethune-Cookman provides WiFi throughout campus and in the Residence Halls.
Are there laundry and kitchen facilities?
Each residence hall I equipped with washers and dryers. The washers and dryers operate with quarters. Quarter machines are located in three of our residence halls; Bronson, Ja-Flo and LLC. None of our residence halls have kitchens for residents. Students are not allowed to cook in the residence halls unless they are using a microwave (please refer to what to bring list).
Will the college pay for property loss or damage in a room that result from theft or maintenance issues?
Bethune Cookman is not responsible for a student’s damaged or stolen property while residing in a residence hall. We highly recommend, however, that parents check into their home owner’s insurance plan to see if coverage extends to their child’s residence hall room.
If I have an issues on my floor, in my room or with my roommate who can I speak to?
Each residence hall is equipped with a staff of Resident Assistants. Every floor is assigned an RA which you will meet at your first floor meeting. If for any reason you cannot contact your RA or they cannot answer your question you can speak with the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC).
What is an RLC?
Residence Life Coordinators (RLC) are full-time professionals who live and work within the residential student communities. Residence Life Coordinators are responsible for all residence hall operations and serve residents through careful selection, training and supervision of the RAs. They also coordinate and approve room changes, oversee health and safety inspections, and serve as student conduct officers in cases of violation of University policy. Each RLC has an office in his or her building.
What is an RA?
She/he is an upper-class student leader and a staff member of the Office of Residence Life empowered to facilitate your housing experience. Your RA is a mediator, listener, organizer, policy enforcer, and a role model in your community.
Is there anything to do at night in the residence halls?
Every RA in each residence hall is required to put on educational and social programs.
I have a medical issue or some other special need, and I require a certain type of housing. How can I receive special accommodations?
Students who require special accommodations due to medical need must complete the Medical Accommodations application process with the Disabilities Services Office to have their accommodation need assessed.
If I have a disability that may affect my mobility in cause of an emergency, who should I inform?
Residents needing assistance should meet with the Residence Life Coordinator and Campus Safety to discuss a plan of action before an emergency situation arises and should follow that plan when an alarm sounds.
What is a FIG?
FIGS (Freshman Interest Groups) are Learning Communities that will help Bethune-Cookman students acclimate to the community faster and have a sense of belonging while aiding in retention of our students. FIGS seek to enhance and enrich the freshman experience both in and outside of the classroom.
MOVING IN AND OUT OF THE RESIDENCE HALLS
What day does the residence hall close? What day should I move out?
All dates for residence hall closings are posted on the master calendar. Residents must check out of their rooms within 24 hours of their last final exam, or by 12:00 noon on the day AFTER the last scheduled exam, whichever comes first!
What do I do if I need to move in earlier than my assigned check in day?
If you need to request an early arrival (whether for personal reasons or due to a late orientation) you may do so by e-mailing our staff with your situation and need for the early arrival. E-mail our office at email@example.com, or call us at 386-481-2424. You will receive the name and email address of the specific person who is coordinating early arrivals, and you will need to email that person directly. Please understand that there are several reasons why your room may not be available for an early arrival, so early move-in is not guaranteed. Also, students who are permitted to move in early are asked to assist with “Wildcat Moves”, our team of students who help others move in on the two primary check-in days.
Do I have to move all my belongings when I leave for Winter Break and/or can I stay for Winter Break?
No, you may mot stay during Winter Break however you may leave your belongings in your room, as long as you are cleared for the Spring semester. You should take or secure any valuable items. You also are required to do a Cleanliness check-out with your RA before you leave for break.
What is an improper-check out?
Any portion of the check-out procedure not completed will result in a charge/fine. This procedure includes making an appointment with current RA at least 24 hours before departure, cleaning your room (i.e. remove garbage, vacuum, etc.), moving furniture to original position (reserved for an end of year/session check-out), removing all of your belongings, returning your keys to your RA, and signing your RCR. The RA will take your key, so it is imperative that your belongings are out of the room. Any items left behind will be considered abandoned and will be discarded.
How will I receive mail?
The Post Office is located in the Procurement Building. Students must present their Bethune-Cookman University Identification Card to claim registered, certified or special delivery mail. Students can pick up their mail Monday-Friday from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for letters and 11:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for packages. On Saturdays, the operating hours are from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. for all mail. Your mailing address will take this form:

Does Bethune Cookman have a Dress Code?
Bethune-Cookman University does have a Dress Code. ALL Majors required to wear business attire once a week. We also suggest that females bring; one “After Five” dress and dress shoes and two or more dress outfits for church (males and females) and males bring one Suit, ties, three dress shirts and dress shoes.
Are there any local churches?
There is the church on campus (the Chapel), and there are several churches in the area located near the campus.
May I bring my vehicle to campus?
Freshmen are not allowed to have vehicles on campus. Upperclassmen may have a vehicle however they must register their vehicle with Campus Saftey at the Parking Management/Enforcement office.
