Scholarship Houses

Alexis Pugh Scholarship House  Zimmerman Scholarship House

The two scholarship houses at Bethune-Cookman University opened in the fall of 2006.The Eugene Zimmerman Scholarship House for males and the Alexis Pugh Scholarship House for females help deserving students gain their college education in self-help, voluntary, cooperative living community. Equal and conscientious participation of each student resident is the foundation for success as they are all interdependent upon one another. The scholarship houses can accommodate 34 student residents, 17 in each house and are part of the Honors Complex.

To be eligible for residence in the scholarship houses, the student must meet the following criteria:

  1. possess and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
  2. must have a minimum of 28 credit hours
  3. must have a minimum of 15 community service hours
  4. must be a registered voter (preferably in Volusia county)
  5. must have no disciplinary infractions
  6. must have three letters of recommendation (by faculty and/or staff of B-CU)
  7. must have health forms on file with Health Services (Adams Infirmary)
  8. must have financial need (need-based scholarship)

In addition to the above criteria, the student must adhere to the Bethune-Cookman University’s rules and aid in the effective operation of the assigned scholarship house.  Residents are required to work together to establish a budget, plan and shop for meals, cook, clean and study together. The residential hall Rules and Regulations outlined apply to the scholarship houses.  For resident application and information, please contact:

Franklin Beckwith '59 Donates $60,000 to B-CU

Franklin Beckwith, who is blind, couldn’t see the expanse of the current campus. But, he said he wants to be a part of educating the next generation and contribute to the school’s growth. Thus, he proudly delivered a check for $60,000 to Bethune-Cookman University, and quietly asked that the funds be used to help current students pay for their education.
