Hurricane/Tropical Storm Watch

Hurricane/Tropical storm conditions are possible in the specified area, usually within 36hrs.

Hurricane/Tropical Storm Warning

Hurricane/Tropical storm conditions are expected in the specified area, usually with 24 hrs.

NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE CAMPUS WITHIN 24HRS OF A HURRICANE.

Damage: Minimal

Bethune-Cookman Emergency Response Plan:

  • College on Alert
  • Possible Cancellation of Classes
  • Students Retricted to Residence Halls
  • Food Service Provided in Residence Halls
  • Residence Hall Monitored by Security Staff

Category 2

Wind Speed: 155-178 km/hr 96-110 mi/hr

Damage: Moderate

Bethune-Cookman Emergency Response Plan:

Students will be relocated to the Performing Arts Center (PAC), a Volusia County Approved Emergency Shelter capable of sustaining Category 5 Hurricanes.

  • Adequate Staffing

Category 3

Wind Speed: 179-210 km/hr 111-130 mi/hr

Damage: Extensive

Bethune-Cookman Emergency Response Plan:

  • Campus will be evacuated
  • Staff will assist with evacuation/transportation plans
  • Calls will be made to parents/guardians regarding students'plans to travel with freinds
  • Students will be asked to complete an evacuation/travel form inclusive of a contact person and relationship to student, telephone number, city, state and email address
  • Parents/Guardians will be responsible for travel costs
  • Online class assignements will be available to students through a link on the University's Homepage

It’s Not too Late Scholarship (INTL) is pleased to launch its campaign to provide tuition relief to deserving students. TINTL is a non-profit organization located in Swansea, Ill., and founded by Bethune-Cookman University alumni Joseph and Theresa Flanders in 2009.
