This week, Bethune-Cookman University kicks off its Homecoming Week with a range of entertainment events open to students, alumni and the public leading up to the annual Homecoming football game. The theme of this year’s Homecoming, “Flight 104: You are now free to roam Wildcat Country,” acknowledges the institution’s rich 104-year history and the deep pride that all students, alumni, and friends feel being part of the B-CU family.
This year, the B-CU Wildcats will host Delaware State University in the Homecoming Game. Kick-off is at 4:00pm, Saturday, October 11th at Municipal Stadium in Daytona Beach. Leading up to the game are a host of fun-filled entertainment events, including:

Leading the Homecoming Parade will be Parade Marshall and B-CU Associate Trustee Emeritus Dr. Joseph Johnson. Dr. Johnson is a beloved, long-time supporter of B-CU. In 1987, he was instrumental in securing $6.2 million for the Mary McLeod Bethune Fine Arts Center. His work on behalf of the institution also has included other fundraising and goodwill efforts that have brought much support to B-CU's programs over the years.
Dr. Johnson, a resident of Jacksonville, had a 30-year career with the Duval County Juvenile Detention Center and the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Services. After his retirement, he continued serving his community through volunteer efforts and other community service. He is also a noted concert artist and elocutionist.
Founded in 1904 by Mary McLeod Bethune, Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) today sustains her legacy of faith, scholarship and service through its relationship with the United Methodist Church and its commitment to academic excellence and civic engagement. B-CU offers baccalaureate degrees in 37 majors through six academic schools – Arts & Humanities; Business; Education; Nursing; Science, Engineering and Mathematics; and Social Sciences – and maintains intercollegiate athletic programs and instrumental and choral groups that have achieved national recognition. Under the direction of President Trudie Kibbe Reed, the school achieved University status in 2007with the launch of a master’s degree program in transformative leadership. Located in Daytona Beach, B-CU is one of three private historically black colleges in the state of Florida. The institution boasts a diverse and international faculty and student body of more than 3,400.
